The fifth annual Euromoney GCC Financial Forum took place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Manama on 23-24 February 2016. Co-hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board, the conference brought together over 500 financiers, investors, business leaders and policy makers from across the GCC region for two days of networking, keynote interviews, interactive panel discussions and debates.
Highlights of the two day event included an open, town-hall discussion with HE Mr Rasheed Mohammed Al Maraj, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain and a keynote interview with Mr Khalid Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board.
Gazi Ercel, former Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey gave an opening keynote address during which he outlined the opportunities that he sees for the financial services industry in the GCC and internationally as well as exploring some potential opportunities for collaboration between Turkey and the GCC.
Our second international keynote speaker, Jackson Tai, Independent Non-Executive Director of the Bank of China and MasterCard gave a thought provoking presentation, entitled: Five opportunities to confront structural change, which explored how the GCC can strengthen its financial services sector as well as examining how the newly formed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank could benefit the GCC and the potential advantages presented by China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative.
Our audience also enjoyed hearing keynote interviews with the chief executives of some of Bahrain’s leading financial institutions, including Abdul Razak Al Qassim, Chief Executive Officer of National Bank of Bahrain, Abdulkarim Bucheery, Chief Executive of BBK and Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji, Chief Executive of Mumtalakat.
Key themes addressed during the panel discussions over the course of the two day event included the macroeconomic backdrop, capital markets development, wealth management, Islamic finance, technology and innovation. Visit the ‘Videos’ section of our website to view the footage of all of the panels.
