On 22 March, 300 high-level government officials, regulators, investors, financiers, business leaders and entrepreneurs from Jordan and across the Middle East region convened in Amman for the 2017 instalment of the annual Euromoney Jordan Conference: Meeting the Financial Challenge.
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Finance, the conference featured high-level representation from the Jordanian government. Euromoney was honoured to welcome HE Mr Omar Malhas, Jordan’s Minister of Finance and HE Dr Ziad Fariz, Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, as keynote speakers.
The audience also heard from keynote speaker Nemeh Sabbagh, Chief Executive Officer, Arab Bank, the conference’s Senior Lead Sponsor.
Bringing an international perspective to the day’s discussions, Francisco Quintana, Head of Strategy at Foresight Advisors gave a presentation entitled, The Strategic Macro-Political Environment: Regional and Global Influences on Jordan’s Economy.
The conference aimed to give a top down narrative on how Jordan can finance its future. Our expert line-up of speakers examined the macroeconomic outlook for 2017 and beyond, discussing global events and their impact on Jordan. Through a series of speeches, interviews and panel discussions, participants explored the health of Jordan’s financial sector, looking at regulation, bank strategy, de-risking and FinTech.
The agenda also highlighted the role of private finance in Jordan's economy, examining how PPPs can be expanded in education, healthcare and services. In a dedicated panel, we also looked at the importance of financial inclusion to Jordan's economy and to the Jordanian people as well as discussing how financial inclusion can be further supported and promoted in the country
Euromoney Conferences would like to thank our co-host, the Ministry of Finance, our sponsors, speakers and all attendees for supporting this year's event and for making it such a success. We look forward to returning to Amman in 2018.
