The HedgeFund Intelligence European Summit 2015

The annual HedgeFund Intelligence European Summit took place at the Palais de la Bourse in Paris on 28th and 29th April 2015.

Attracting over 600 attendees over the course of the two day event, the Summit once again brought together a high-level audience of managers, investors, allocators, intermediaries from all across Europe, the US and Asia.

The conference was opened by Jeremy Llewelyn, chief executive of BlackRiver Asset Management UK Ltd, who addressed the Summit audience speaking about opportunities in emerging markets, the importance of perception and avoiding cognitive bias in investment decisions.

Highlights of the Summit also included a keynote session with Israel Englander of Millennium Management, who was interviewed by Martin Hockman of SEB. Mr Englander gave a fascinating insight into his background, how he came to launch Millennium and the history of his firm.

Mike Novogratz of Fortress Investment Group, opened the second day of the event, bringing a global perspective to the Summit and explaining his views on today’s investment landscape, the influence of monetary policy on the markets and the macroeconomic factors which are having the greatest impact on the fund management industry.

HedgeFund Intelligence was also delighted to welcome Sir John Sawers, former chief of MI6 to the stage, who spoke candidly and shared his views on the prevailing geopolitical environment and the key risks that he sees in the today’s investment climate. Julie Meyer of Ariadne Capital also entertained a packed auditorium as she talked about how the success of many of today’s leading digital companies can be attributed to ‘ecosystem economics’ and explained how this relates to her philosophy of ‘entrepreneurs backing entrepreneurs’.

Some of the most influential business leaders in the industry took to the stage to discuss the challenges of running investment funds in today’s investment environment. Loic Fery of Chenavari, Dan Mannix of RWC Partners, Peter Rigg of HSBC Alternative Investment and Isaac Souede of Permal Group joined a panel discussion which explored the most critical issues they face and their key priorities as the leaders of some of the most successful funds in the industry.

Our Investor panel brought together a selection of the industry’s biggest allocators to hedge funds participated on at the event. Nicolas Campiche of Pictet Alternative Advisors, Salvatore Cordaro of Tages Capital, Richard Walters of the Wellcome Trust and Adrian Worth of Cambridge Associates took to the stage to debate whether the case for alternatives is clear to investors and what exactly investors are looking for from their hedge fund investments.

Our ‘predictor panel’: The hedge fund industry in 2025, closed this years’ event on a thought provoking note. Panellists Ted Roosevelt Malloch of The Roosevelt Group, Donald Pepper of Old Mutual Global Advisors, Karsten Schroeder of Amplitude Capital and Jennifer Wood of AIMA discussed how they envision the global hedge fund industry will change and evolve over the next ten years and spoke about some of the key challenges which will shape the industry in the years to come.
