The Euromoney Institutional and Alternative Lending Conference 2018

The Euromoney Institutional and Alternative Lending Conference will return to London on Wednesday 17 January 2018. The event will bring together leading borrowers, lenders, investors and intermediaries to discuss the prospects for, and the structural changes to, Europe’s direct lending sector - a market that thrived in the wake of the financial crisis as mainstream banks dramatically cut back lending to SMEs.

According to ACC forecasts, the industry, which manages approximately $600bn in assets1, has grown 14-fold since 20002. Based on its current growth rate, the sector will reach $1 trillion in assets by the end of the decade.

While banks have been forced to take a more cautious view of their investments and lending strategies, alternative lenders have stepped into the breach, providing companies and sponsors with debt. The US already had a well-developed non-bank lending market pre-crisis, but it’s in Europe where growth has really taken hold for private debt funds over recent times.  According to Deloitte, the number of deals covered in Europe has increased to 1082 transactions over the past 19 quarters. The first two quarters of 2017 have also seen a 6% increase in deal flow compared to the same period in 2016.

However, for many investors questions still remain.

- Are direct lenders legitimate challengers in the upper mid-market?
- New regulation: what does this mean for direct lenders?
- How to differentiate yourself as a lender?
- Sponsorless Vs. Sponsored
- Where do investors see value?

Join us in January 2018 to find out the kinds of strategies Europe’s top direct lenders are pursuing today, as well as how broader economic and macro trends are reshaping Europe’s mid-market. Just what will be the impact on deal flow and pricing of higher rates, quantitative tightening and a resurrected banking sector? And, importantly, what should be the investor response?

At this new, one day, streamlined event, participants will gain valuable insight into the opportunities, challenges and trends for the year ahead. The conference will incorporate all the core features you value at a Euromoney Conferences event: high-level audience; independent editorial content and unrivalled networking opportunities.

“The Institutional and Alternative Lending Conference in New York was a great catalyst to get a sense of latest market trends in Direct Lending both sides of the Atlantic. Listening to speakers and sharing a panel was a unique opportunity to be updated with the most recent developments and concerns arising in this growing asset class. Coming from Europe, it was an extremely fruitful session, allowing me to meet many US players and investors in a very efficient format with in-depth panels, specialists' presentations and workshop presentations as well as networking breaks.”
