The Saudi Arabia Conference 2014

The ninth Euromoney Saudi Arabia Conference reached new heights in bringing together world class policy makers, financiers, business leaders to share their thoughts and perspectives on the Kingdom, its role in the region and in the global economy.

H.E. Dr Ibrahim Al-Assaf gave the opening remarks. Other government ministers included H.E. Dr Shwaish Al-Dowaihy, Minister of Housing, H.E. Dr Muhammad Al-Jasser, Minister of Economy and Planning. This year we were delighted to have with us for the first time H.E. Dr Majid Al-Moneef, Secretary General of the Supreme Economic Council.

Our international speaker line-up was led by one of the most important figures in global finance, Mr Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JP Morgan who took part in a live on-stage interview. Mr Dimon discussed the state of the global economy, the outlook for long-term growth and the importance of the Kingdom in JPMorgan’s global strategy. You can access Mr Dimon’s full interview here.

Other notable international speakers included, Senator Philip Ozouf, Minister of Treasury and Resources, States of Jersey. Senator Ozouf highlighted opportunities for increased collaboration between Jersey and the GCC states and plans for developing Jersey as a financial centre.

Over the course of the interview debates on day one the overriding theme was the increasing importance of technology and innovation particularly in the banking and financial sector but also in the corporate sector.

On day two we were joined by Mr Adel Al-Ghamdi CEO of Tadawul who gave us insight on the development of the Saudi stock market. This was followed by an important panel debate on growing capital markets and the opportunities for investors. For the first time this year we also had a debate on the use of technology in finance. A new topic was brought new voices from Ibrahim Al-Rashid, Chief Information Officer of Al-Rajhi Bank and Peter Yarrington, Chief Operating Officer, NCB.
