Event Overview
Over two days this June, The Global Borrowers & Bond Investors Forum was once again the place to get business done for the primary debt markets. Over 1000 meetings took place between sponsors, issuers and investors – cementing its reputation as the debt market’s number one event for networking. And when not doing business, delegates enjoyed panels, workshops and keynote interviews from the debt capital markets’ most prominent issuers, investors, bankers and economists.
Tim Harford, Financial Times columnist, broadcaster, and author of the The Logic of Life and The Undercover Economist, opened the conference with a fascinating keynote address on the perils of getting forecasts wrong. Our keynote talk on day two took the form of an on-stage interview with Dame Helena Morrissey. In a full and frank discourse, Dame Helena told our editorial director, Charlie Corbett, of her early struggles on the road to success, what it’s like to be a woman in a man’s world, and gave delegates advice on managing successful careers in the City – while also raising, in her case, nine children.

Throughout the conference three reoccurring themes became clear: political uncertainty, the still dangerous levels of debt in the system, and QE-weakened market structures. Polling revealed the biggest worries concerning our audience this year were: European politics, the asset price bubble bursting, and the weakening of markets by years of central bank intervention.
