Dr Adama Coulibaly began his professional career as a researcher teacher at the University of Abidjan and at the Ivorian Center for Economic and Social Research. He was deputy executive director of the Postgraduate Doctoral Programme in rural economics until 1990. In addition to his duties at the university, Dr Coulibaly has conducted numerous consultancy missions for organisations such as the African Development Bank, UNIDO and the United Nations Development Program. In 1990 he joined the UNDP where he worked as an economist and then as a senior economist before taking up the duties of deputy resident representative and country director. In 2014, he decided to make his experience available to his own country, where he first worked as special adviser to the Minister of Economy and Finance and then as a cabinet director, a position he currently holds. Dr Adama Coulibaly began his university training at the University of Abidjan Cocody, where he earned a masters degree in economics. He also graduated with a doctorate degree in economics from the University of Paris II Panthéon Sorbonne.
