Walid Labadi

Country Manager - Egypt, Libya and Yemen


Walid Labadi is country manager for Egypt, Libya and Yemen at IFC. He was appointed to his role in July 2017. Labadi was IFC’s Chief Counsel based in Washington DC and has managed the organisation's legal department for Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Manufacturing and Services from 2015 until 2017. During his 20 year career in economic development, he has been involved in more than 300 transactions covering a range of sectors, from finance to natural resources. In his new position, he oversees IFC's investments and advisory work in the three countries. During his years at IFC, Labadi worked on some of the institution's most visible transactions. He was part of teams that financed power plants in Turkey and Egypt along with airports in Jordan, Tunisia, and Jamaica. He has also participated in and oil and gas investments in Egypt and Africa. Before joining IFC, Labadi worked for nine years at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as a senior counsel and before that as an associate at White and Case in Saudi Arabia. Labadi, currently based in Cairo, holds a doctorate in law from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor of arts in political science and economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
