Waleed El-Amir is responsible for managing Unicredit Group’s funding and capital across various issuing entities for the wholesale and retail markets as well as accessing funds from agencies and supranational entities. Funding responsibilities include senior unsecured debt, covered bonds, subordinated debt and asset-backed funding. Waleed’s responsibilities also include the creation and management of Unicredit’s counterbalancing capacity and overseeing the group’s liability management activities. Additionally Waleed is tasked with overseeing group treasury, ratings and the finance division’s multibillion structural and strategic investment portfolio. He is also a member of the group’s Resolution and Recovery Council. Finally, Waleed is a member of the Unicredit Luxembourg board, where he serves as vice chairman. Before joining Unicredit, Waleed was with Bank of America Merrill Lynch for 16 years where he worked in New York, London and Dubai in a variety of positions, including being the head of debt and equity capital markets for Central Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. Waleed has a masters in biochemical engineering from the University of Surrey and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Waleed is fluent in English, French, Italian, Spanish and Arabic and has a working knowledge of Portuguese, Maltese and Greek.
