Akbar Ahsan has over 15 years of investment banking, capital markets and private equity experience. He is Euromoney’s representative for Iran and a partner at Magellan Capital, non-executive director at Destiny Corporation Energy South Africa and on the Advisory Board of Vasari Art Fund. Akbar has been working with Iranian clients since 2003 and heads Magellan Capital’s Middle East and Iran business. As head of corporate finance at QIB (UK), Akbar was responsible for the firm’s offering of bespoke debt, mezzanine and equity solutions. Akbar spent several years in Doha as head of international finance with Qatar Islamic Bank, where he was responsible for cross border transactions and Qatari blue chip clients, originating and leading transactions over US$3bn across private equity, real estate, general industrials, leasing and manufacturing sectors. Before QIB, Akbar was at Euromoney Institutional Investor where he was responsible for client coverage in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Previous to Euromoney, Akbar was at Barclays Capital where he raised over US$30bn for clients across Europe, Middle East and Africa. He held roles within the debt capital markets team in London, the strategic finance and group treasury teams and was a founding member of the investment banking team in Johannesburg. Akbar has been a non-executive director of Iota Nanosolutions and held a board observer position at B3 International.
