General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI)

Mohamed Khodeir was appointed chief executive officer of GAFI in June 2016. As the chief executive officer of GAFI, Mr Khodeir oversees the regulatory role of GAFI for registering companies in Egypt, in addition to promoting the investment opportunities, targeting the areas of business potential and attracting foreign direct investments to Egypt. Mr Khodeir started his professional career in the field of law in Egypt until he became a partner at Al Tamimi & Co., one of the biggest law firms in the Middle East. Since 1999, Mr Khodeir has practiced law in four jurisdictions, including Egypt and the UAE. He is a member of the Egyptian Bar Association and the International Bar Association. Mr Khodeir has a diverse legal background in multiple areas of law including: corporate; banking and finance; dispute settlement; government projects; legislation; tax; as well as family businesses. The estimated value of the projects and transactions he was involved in exceeded $50bn. Mr Khodeir has been recognised repeatedly for his legal work. In 2015, he was recognised by IFLR1000 as one of the leading lawyers in recognition of his work in the area of general corporate practice. Mr Khodeir has written numerous articles, participated in multiple interviews, and has presented and lectured on his areas of expertise on many occasions. He is a member of the board of directors of the following: National Investment Bank; The Egyptian Competition Authority; State’s Land Utilisation Centre; National Authority for Sinai Development; Al Awqaf Egyptian Authority; Industrial Development Authority; and General Organisation for International Exhibitions. He is an LLB graduate from Cairo University, English section and a holder of an LLM degree in international business law from Leiden University, the Netherlands.
