Klaus Wiener has been the chief economist of the German Insurance Association (GDV) since 1 December 2015. With a doctorate in economics, he is responsible as a member of management for issues relating to the economy, financial markets and investments. Dr Wiener came from Assicurazioni Generali, where he most recently directed tactical asset management while holding the position of chief economist for the asset management division of the Generali Group. He was previously able to gain experience in various capacities in the financial sector. His studies of economics in Germany and the United States were preceded by positions at Commerzbank in Frankfurt and Westdeutsche Landesbank in Düsseldorf. In 1998, Dr Wiener moved to the insurance industry. He also has experience as an academic teacher and regularly contributes guest commentary to leading German and international publications.
