Vitas Vasiliauskas, appointed on 16 April 2011, is the fourteenth governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Lithuania. Before his appointment, Mr Vasiliauskas was a lawyer, specialising in financial law and an associate partner at the law firm LAWIN Lideika, Petrauskas, Valiūnas ir partneriai, between 2004 and 2011. Before this, he was the Vice Minister of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania for three years, from 2001 until 2004, after being promoted from the position of director of the tax department, Ministry of Finance which he held between 1998 and 2001. Mr Vasiliauskas started his career in the public sector as a lawyer and head of the tax recovery division of the State Tax Inspectorate, from 1995 until 1998. He completed his law studies at Vilnius University in 1996 and received his PhD in social sciences (law) in 2004. He has remained active in the academic world throughout his entire career and currently he is a lecturer of the chair of public law of Vilnius University’s faculty of law, a position he has held since 2010. Previously, he was a lecturer of the chair of constitutional and administrative law at Vilnius University’s faculty of law, from 2004 until 2010 and an assistant of the chair of state and law theory and history of Vilnius University faculty of law between 1997 and 2004.
