Mohamad Safri Shahul Hamid ('Safri') rejoined CIMB Islamic as its deputy CEO in early 2011, after a stint as deputy CEO with a local investment bank based in Kuala Lumpur. Safri first joined CIMB Islamic as one of its pioneer members back in 2003 and was credited for a number of ground breaking / ‘world’s first’ and award-winning Islamic capital market transactions - the notable ones include world's first exchangeable sukuk, first rated corporate sukuk in the Middle East, world's first hybrid sukuk, world's first rated Musyarakah securitization (ABS) sukuk, world’s first Islamic residential mortgage backed-securities (RMBS), world’s first Renminbi-denominated sukuk, world's largest sukuk issuance to-date and world's first stapled REITS. Safri currently oversees CIMB Islamic group global wholesale businesses covering debt and equity capital markets, asset management, treasury and securities services. He is a member of the group investment banking management committee, regional credit committee and global wholesale banking risk committee. Safri obtained MBA (Globalization) from Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands. He is a chartered accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Accountant (MIA).
