The GlobalCapital Leveraged Finance Conference 2017

The GlobalCapital Leveraged Finance Conference 2017 took place in London on Tuesday 14 November. Issuers, investors and financial intermediaries attended to network with and learn from professionals in the market.

The conference opened with a keynote address and interview with Patrick Amis, Director General of Micro-Prudential Supervision I at the European Central Bank. Patrick provided a detailed overview of the ECB’s new leveraged finance guidelines, and cemented the importance of the guidance alongside those of the Federal Reserves.

A keynote interview with David Riley, Partner and Head of Credit Strategy at BlueBay Asset Management then followed. The interview covered a lot of ground including the flattening US yield curve and what it means for the economy and markets, leverage levels, and whether there is a worrying supply-demand imbalance in debt markets. The day continued with a series of panel discussions looking at the macro picture, liquidity, CLO’s and private equity.

In between panels, Euromoney Conferences included two new formats, a big debate and four small target table discussions. Louis Gargour, CIO of LNG Capital and Desmond English, Senior Portfolio Manager at Amundi Asset Management debated for and against the motion ‘this house believes that as investors hunt for yield, leverage is getting dangerously high’. The final polling results showed the audience agreed with this motion. However, the risk is unlikely to stop them.

As the conference drew to a close, issuers and investors congregated to consider their thoughts on CDS in leveraged finance, Libor, high-yield bonds and direct lending.

Euromoney would like to thank all our sponsors, speakers and delegates, without whom the event would not be possible. We look forward to seeing you at the next GlobalCapital Leveraged Finance Conference.

“A wide-ranging agenda that tackled the big issues facing global leveraged finance investors. The panel discussion with experienced investors sharing their perspective from the US as well as Europe was very insightful. It is an event that you leave wiser than when you arrived!”
