HE Mr Omar Malhas became Minister of Finance of Jordan in November 2015. Before this, Mr Malhas held various positions at Housing Bank for Trade and Finance (HBTF) between 2002 and 2015, including head of treasury and investment, global head of treasury and chief banking officer. Mr Malhas became chief executive officer of HBTF in 2010. Before joining HBTF, Mr Malhas was a senior manager at Alliance Capital Management International in the Bahrain office, where he specialised in developing and maintaining business relationships with local, regional and international institutions in the Middle East to market Alliance’s offshore mutual funds and set-up sub-advisory and fund of funds relationships. Before joining Alliance in 2000, Mr Malhas was executive manager of treasury, investment and private banking at Doha Bank. He served as the bank’s acting deputy general manager from 1999 until 2000. Mr Malhas began his career at the Housing Bank, Jordan. He joined in 1988 as head of the investment unit, before becoming deputy manager of foreign relations and head of the correspondent and international banking operations unit in 1991. Mr Malhas served as deputy executive manager of the foreign relations, customer investments and private banking and treasury division at the bank between 1995 and 1997, before becoming deputy executive manager of the international division and manager of international investments and mutual funds, a position he held until 1998. Mr Malhas holds an MBA in International Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham, UK and a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana-Lafayette, USA.
