The Spanish Capital Markets Forum

Date: 29 September 2010
Venue: NH Euro Building, Madrid, Spain
Apply Now | Download to Outlook

Spain had a difficult year in 2009. Unemployment rose and economic growth stalled as the decade long construction and development boom came to an end. Figures from Q4 suggest the labour market may have turned the corner, but the wider economic situation still looks challenging.

As Spain tries to rebalance its economy and avoid another credit bubble, its banks and capital markets have a vital role to play. The conference will give leading banks and companies – and the sovereign and sub-sovereign borrowing entities – a platform to assess the current situation and put forward the best opportunities created by economic diversification for the international and local investment community.

Can Spain avoid becoming another Greece? Is the Government’s economic plan working? Can the capital markets maintain their strength in 2010? Where will new issuance come from? Having entered the crisis as some of the strongest institutions in Europe, how healthy are Spain’s banks now as NPLs and defaults rise sharply? How can Spain move towards more value-added industries, and what opportunities does this shift create for investors?

These questions and many more will be explored by leading market participants and commentators at the Spanish Capital Markets Forum 2010. Understand what the changes in the economic climate mean for your activities in Spain and how to take advantage of the new opportunities these changes are creating.

Latest speakers include:
-
Carlos Ocaña Pérez de Tudela, Secretary of State, Finance and Budget, Ministry of Economy and Finance
- Raúl González, Chief Executive Officer EMEA, Barceló Grupo
- Soledad Núñez, Director General, Treasury and Financial Policy, Ministry of Economy and Finance

"In these interesting and challenging times, Euromoney conferences are at the forefront of the latest debate in capital markets. The Spanish Capital Markets Forum provided an excellent platform for both investors and policy makers to exchange views and challenge opinion on fiscal policy, structural reforms, and the future role of Spain in the European Monetary Union."
Azad Zangana, Schroders Investment Management.
