On a day when key policymakers descended on Berlin for crisis talks about Greece and the Eurozone, Euromoney opened its annual Germany conference. Joerg Asmussen, State Secretary of Finance, and one of the most powerful figures in the German financial policy scene opened the conference. He was followed by Juergen Stark, member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank and the man who more than anyone else still active, represents the spirit of German financial rigour he did so much to strengthen in previous roles at the German Finance Ministry and the Bundesbank.
A record 450 delegates congregated for the Euromoney Germany Conference 2010 in Berlin. The conference opened with timely remarks from Jörg Asmussen, State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance on the global financial regulatory environment and Jürgen Stark of the European Central Bank on the dangers of rising global public debt levels. You can listen to their remarks via the links above. Throughout the first day, discussions focussed on what strains in the Eurozone meant for Germany, the state of the German banking sector, old and new capital structures, government debt, ABS and much more. Hannes Rehm from SoFFin also addressed the audience on the health of bank balance sheets and David Marsh author of The Euro, The Politics of the New Global Currency’ was interviewed and put across his views on the Greek debt crisis and how it would affect Germany. Nicolas Véron opened the second day of the conference being interviewed about international banking reform and whether it was doomed for failure. The following panels then focused on German investors and their search for yield, financing corporate Germany and the Eurozone 2020.
We would like to thank the German Finance Ministry for their continued support for the event, and all our sponsors. We look forward to reconvening in Berlin in April 2011.
"The Euromoney Germany Conference is a must for everyone in the capital markets. In difficult times it’s especially important to share views, get insight from different sources and have a chat with interesting people."
