The Euromoney Qatar Conference 2014

global finance: re-launched

How is Qatar gearing up to the new challenges set by lower energy prices? What are the objectives of the National Vision 2030? Is Doha able to undertake the challenge of establishing its presence as an international financial hub? These were some of the many questions asked at the third instalment of the Euromoney Qatar Conference in Doha on 24-25 November.

Co-hosted by Qatar Central Bank and under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister, State of Qatar, the conference was opened by H.E. Mr Ali Shareef Al Emadi, Minister of Finance, State of Qatar.

The conference explored many key themes including cross-border regulation, trading and issuance implications of post-crisis capital markets, opportunities for asset management in the region, the impact of geopolitics and the global macroeconomic outlook, with speakers such as Rodrigo de Rato, the former head of the International Monetary Fund and Denis Beau of the Banque de France addressing an audience of over 500 delegates.

Amongst key Qatari speakers, H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud Al-Thani, Chairman of Ooredoo explained how the company is supporting the global business community. The conference concluded on two panel sessions on the future of the Qatari real estate sector and on the realignment on the financial and private sector, exploring in depth Qatar’s capital markets and banking system.

The final agenda is available to view. Videos of all of the sessions will be available to view shortly.

Euromoney would like to thank all the delegates, speakers and sponsors for helping to make the third event in The Euromoney Qatar Conference series such a resounding success. We look forward to next year.

"The event provided a very useful forum for our organisation to connect with finance professionals and the business community from abroad and in Qatar. It is clearly one of the premier events in Qatar for making contact with those in the financial sector doing business in Qatar or interested in entering the market."
George Pickering, Managing Director, Policy and Enforcement Division, Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority

"The Euromoney conference in Qatar succeeded in bringing together a broad spectrum of interesting speakers and attendees. It was both thought-provoking in the content and comprehensive in its coverage."
