China Forum 2013

Over 300 delegates attended the inaugural AsiaHedge China Forum in Shanghai

The inaugural AsiaHedge China Forum was held on 12 September 2013, at the Grand Hyatt in the Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai.  The Forum, which was the first independent conference of its kind in mainland China, attracted more than 300 delegates over the course of the day.  Senior managers from many of the largest onshore sunshine funds, industry regulators, and leading fund managers and investors from around the globe came together to debate and discuss the development of China’s hedge fund industry.

The first keynote speech of the day was delivered by Mr Fan Yonghong, Vice Chairman of the Asset Management Association of China (AMAC). During his address, Mr Fan spoke about progress in the ongoing establishment of regulatory infrastructure in China to date and the outlook for the industry in the months and years ahead.

Barry Goodman of Millburn, our second keynote, provided an international perspective on the opportunities presented by the establishment of a hedge fund industry in China, sharing his predictions on how the investment landscape will evolve over the coming years.

Leaders from China’s largest domestic sunshine funds, managers from across Asia and beyond, as well as policy makers, expert economists and investors debated the issues critical to the development of China’s hedge fund industry during the panel discussions. Themes discussed  included the development of the onshore fund industry and the evolution of the regulatory environment in China.  Also on the agenda were sessions which explored how hedge funds can build long-term business models in China, as well  as how to ‘go global’ through establishing a sustainable offshore hedge fund business. The conference was brought to a close with a panel of global fund managers who discussed the best routes for international funds to access China’s high potential market.

HedgeFund Intelligence would like to thank all delegates, speakers and sponsors for supporting the Forum and for making the day such a great success.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Shanghai for the second AsiaHedge China Forum in 2014.
