Euromoney is delighted with the success of its inaugural Canadian Debt Capital Markets Investor Forum, which brought together over 200 US investors with Canadian issuers.
Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan opened the Forum highlighting the strength of the Ontario economy and the varied investment opportunities in Canada’s largest province. Canadian Finance Minister James Flaherty spoke later in the day and was understandably bullish on the fiscal situation and health of the economic recovery in Canada. He also focused on the particular strength of the Canadian mortgage market and financial services industry.
The conference proceedings went on to address the outlook for issuance by the provinces, corporates and banks and the value these issuers can offer US investors. Speakers were overwhelmingly positive and believed investor appetite for Canadian credit would only strengthen further next year. The only cloud on the horizon was the danger that yield-hungry investors opt for higher risk, lower cost assets rather than pay a premium for the security of ‘Canada Inc.’
